Eye Injury
Eye Injury Prevention:
More than 1 million people suffer from eye injuries each year in the United
States. 90% of these injuries could have been prevented with the appropriate
protective eye wear.
In the house - when using house hold chemicals make sure point the spray nozzles
away from your eyes. These chemicals can destroy the surface of your eyes,
resulting in blindness. Work in a well ventilated area.
In the garden:
Use protective eye wear when using a lawn mower or any power tools.
Check for any rocks as they can become projectile.
Don’t forget to protect any bystanders.
In the workshop - use protective eye wear to shield your eyes from dust, flying
fragments and UV light.
Chemicals:
In the work place – use the appropriate eye protection for your job
Around the car – battery acid can severely damage your eyes. Keep protective
eyeglasses in your car for emergencies.
Sports safety:
Eye injuries occur most frequently in baseball, basketball and racquet sports.
Wear proper safety goggles.
Use batting helmets with polycarbonate face shields for youth baseball.
Use helmets and face shields approved by the U.S. Amateur Hockey Association
when playing hockey.
Know that regular glasses don't provide enough protection.
